Latino Family Services
Latino Family Services (LFS) is a not-for-profit organization primarily serving the southwest Detroit community. LFS’ primary goal is to develop a service system that assists and supports families in their efforts to improve their social, health and educational functioning; enhance their community environment; and increase economic self-sufficiency. LFS is an established and trusted resource in the community, with long-standing relationships that facilitate collaboration with local schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies. Each month, over 800 residents of Southwest Detroit and Wayne County access LFS’ resources and services. LFS offers a broad range of services, including HIV testing and counseling, substance abuse counseling, bilingual childcare, youth programs and parenting classes.
Wayne State students are needed to work with the Latino Family Services youth programs. These projects are ongoing and will continue throughout the year. For details on a Directed Study, contact Professor Elizabeth Barton, at ac2913@wayne.edu.
